Yesterday we went to the Shriners Circus with my sister and her boys, my Dad and my Grandmother. In addition to being a fun outing, supporting the Shriners is really important to me. You wouldn’t know it to see her but Kathryn received 2nd degree burns over 25% of her body when she was 13 months old. We ended up at Shriner’s in Boston and they were amazing. Despite having insurance, they covered 100% of the bill. We drove 60 minutes each way from NH to Boston every.single.day so that she could be treated by the best burn specialists around. The Drs and the Shriners that support them are my heroes. The reason is because my grandfather Pa was a proud Shriner. He was recognized for his 50 year membership in the organization a few month before he passed away in February. It was really tough to be there without him but I knew that he was smiling down on us.
We ended the day with a pizza party at my parents house and Charlie and Zack played a little piano and sang to us.
